    Harry Burrell OBE c.1910

HARRY BURRELL, pictured here in his river research gear in the early 1900s, poses with his mobile Platypusary, constructed to prepare captive platypuses for the long sea journey to America. Burrell published his book "The Platypus" in 1927 and was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 1934 for his contribution to natural science. His research collection is held at the National Museum of Australia (Canberra). His correspondence is held at the American Museum of Natural History. Copies are kept in the Manilla Archives. You can see a replica of the Burrell Platypusary in the old bakery room at the rear of Manilla Museum.
